The american society of clinical hypnosis

Founded in 1957 by Milton H. Erickson, M.D. the American Society of Clinical Hypnosis is the foremost body of hypnotic studies in the medical fraternity. It certifies medical practitioners of the science of hypnosis in the U.S. and elsewhere. With a mission statement that aims to "provide and encourage education programs to further, in every ethical way, the knowledge, understanding, and application of hypnosis in health care", the American Society of Clinical Hypnosis also furthers research in this rapidly advancing science. It provides umbrage to all those who use hypnosis in their work.

About the American Society of Clinical Hypnosis

The American Society for Clinical Hypnosis is the single largest recognized body of U.S. health care and mental health care entailing the services of clinical hypnotherapists.

It was the first body to encourage the usage of hypnosis in modern medicine and has been instrumental in the widespread acceptance that the field now claims. The ASCH also holds workshops, certification programmes and networking opportunities which further the careers of its practitioners.

Members

Doctoral and master hypnotherapists are members of the American Society of Clinical Hypnosis. Clinical hypnotists in the fields of marriage counseling, social hypnosis, psychology and psychiatry, and mental health counselors, dentists and chiropractors are all members of the American Society of Clinical Hypnosis. The wide variety of practitioners allows for interdisciplinary studies and helps in building a broader base of experts for a patient to avail from. Cross fertilization of the ideas of these experts also allows for furthering the research that this field needs.

How to be a member of the American Society of Clinical Hypnosis

Membership of the American Society of Clinical Hypnosis is available online. A simple form, and fulfillment of prerequisite terms of hypnotherapeutic training allows a clinical hypnotist to become a member of the largest fraternity of hypnotic medicine. Terms include a doctorate in medicine with psychology as a major and twenty mandatory hours of training. The rigorous terms dictate the quality of practitioners who become a part of the organization. Internship and student affiliated status are also available at the American Society of Clinical Hypnosis.

The ASCH also allows for research members to be a part of its fraternity. A special category has been created for those engaged in full time research and are affiliated to an institution while doing so.

Workshops

The American Society of Clinical Hypnosis conducts workshops at various levels to spread awareness about the science of hypnosis. Basic courses allow practitioners to learn hypnosis skills directly applicable to their clinical work. Intermediate courses allow for a deeper understanding of the subject under hypnosis and helps refine the clinical skills. Advanced courses are topical and are generally concentrated on behavioral medicine, health psychology and pediatrics.

Contribution

The American Society of Clinical Hypnosis has helped create an awareness for hypnotherapy which was missing earlier, hence creating a whole new dimension in modern medicine. With further scientific research undertaken, the Society is still paving the way for clinical hypnotists around the world.
