Hypnosis research

The rapidly advancing medical science of hypnosis is also advancing in the area o research constantly. Methods are being developed so as to make hypnosis and hypnotherapy more scientific and less borne off the rudimentary methods previously employed. Consequently, more and more uses for this science have been found and today it forms an integral part of medicine. Because of these wide variety of applications of the science of hypnosis and its usage world wide, it becomes imperative that continuous and in depth research be performed to fine tune the practices involved.

Various researchers have tried to inculcate the doctrines of Yoga and ancient Indian Yogic behavior into the practices of hypnosis suggesting that the relaxing effects of Yoga will definitely provide easier passage of the subject into the state of calm required to induce hypnosis. Also, the ancient Indian texts have evidence that Yoga and hypnosis were integral parts of the medicinal practices during that time, which are essentially the bases for all of modern medicine.

The American Society of Clinical Hypnosis also endorses many research programmes in the field. The American Society of Clinical Hypnosis is the largest body of clinical hypnotists and hypnotherapists in the United States. The American Society of Clinical Hypnosis has helped create awareness for hypnotherapy which was missing earlier, hence creating a whole new dimension in modern medicine. Path breaking research to incorporate hypnosis further in the fields of pediatrics, health psychology and behavioral medicine are done by the American Society of Clinical Hypnosis. With further scientific research undertaken, the Society is still paving the way for clinical hypnotists around the world. Even the Harvard Medical School has a research programme to analyze the benefits of hypnosis and further research its uses in the field of medicine.

In the earliest records of the usage of hypnosis in medicine, it was only used as a substitute for anesthetics with evidence dating back to ancient India suggesting that hypnosis was induced even while severing limbs or amputation. Today, hypnosis and counseling are used as an effective measure against many psychological disorders for adults and for children, including incontinence, mental scars and phobias. Everyone ranging in all age groups is now able to seek asylum in the medical options offered by the science of hypnosis, and no real psychological trauma is too big for modern hypnotherapists to handle, all because of the continuous research performed in the field.

The long and traditional research in the field of hypnosis without the aid of brain imaging has led to significant debate among scientists in the regard and has proven the resourcefulness of the technique in contemporary psychological medicine. Now, incorporating the use of modern technology, hypnosis research in the field of medicine is poised on the verge of many more new and potent cures for human troubles.
